Changes coming to drop-off and pick-up
Centennial Elementary is excited to announce a new traffic pattern and enforcement plan for student pick-up and drop-off, designed to improve safety and efficiency for both families and our neighbors. We’ve been working closely with the Firestone Police Department to implement these changes and will be sharing more details with you next week. Please stay tuned for further communication and be prepared for adjustments as we all learn the new system.
Please reach out to Mrs. Byxbe with any questions or concerns.

ACCESS Testing: January 14 – 27, 2025
Dear Parents/Families of our Multi-Lingual Learners,
Each January, English Language Development (ELD) students in Colorado are assessed with the ACCESS test. This English language test has 4 parts (speaking, listening, reading and writing). The ACCESS test helps us determine the English proficiency levels of our multilingual learners at Centennial Elementary. This test determines eligibility for ELD services and demonstrates their growth in acquiring English.
The Kindergarten-Fifth grade ACCESS testing window is January 14-27. Please try your best to have your student at school so that they won’t have to complete any make up testing. Please help your child to get a good night’s sleep the nights before testing and eat healthy breakfasts on the mornings of the test.
Testing Schedule:
- 1st-5th Grades: Reading, Writing, Listening Tests – January 14, 15, 16
- 1st-5th Grades: Speaking Test – January 21, 22 23
- Kindergarten Testing: January 15 & 16
If you have any questions regarding the ACCESS testing that your student will be taking, please contact Dana Foster at [email protected].
Thank you!
Dear Centennial Parents,
We are looking for a speaker system to use during our upcoming unified basketball (February) and soccer (May) games. If any family has one we could borrow for the events please email [email protected].
Thank you so much for your support!

Attendance — Our current attendance rate for Centennial is 94.75%. Way to go Huskies! We continue to work on achieving our goal of 96% as a whole school and it takes every one of YOU to meet that.
We appreciate the ongoing and successful communication between home and school for when your child(ren) is/are not feeling well or will have an extended absence from school. Thank you for continuing to share extended absences with Mrs. Byxbe (Principal) or Mrs. Coniglio (Dean of Students) by email or phone call.
Please note that when there is no communication with school staff, an absence will result in an unexcused absence.
The minimum number of unexcused absences a student may incur before judicial proceedings are initiated to enforce compulsory attendance is four (4) days in one month or ten (10) days during any school year. Once a student has reached 3 unexcused absences, a letter will be sent to the family from our school district. Please reach out to Sarah Coniglio at [email protected] if you have further questions.
We have partnered with the Colorado Rapids to reward and incentivize attendance here at Centennial Elementary by giving students who have no days missed, from January 7th – February 4th, a chance to win a complimentary ticket to a Colorado Rapids match in the Spring.
The Rapids boast one of the most family-friendly and fun game day experiences in town. Students who qualify will receive a ticket link voucher to redeem their complimentary ticket with purchase of additional discounted tickets. Vouchers will be redeemable for select Spring dates. Please reach out to Sarah Coniglio, Dean of Students, with any questions!
PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports)
Congratulations to our CNEL Huskies for earning so many Class Paws for the month of December! Our school-wide reward for meeting this goal is to have 20 mins. for playing board games in their classrooms. Our next reward we will be working toward will be earning an additional recess time in each class.
Welcome to all new families to our school! This is our PBIS handout (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) including information on how we support positive behavior at school. This includes more information about Tracks, Pawsitive Purple Office Referrals, Golden Tracks and our Husky Hall of Fame.
The Health Office is in need of clothing donations. We are most in need of boys underwear in sizes S/M/L, M and L sweatpants and girls M and L leggings and underwear sizes S/M. Thank you so much!
Cold Weather…Brrrrrrrrrr
As we are heading into this season when we may have some days with colder weather, please be sure to help your child be most successful.
- If the weather feels like 20 degrees or below, we will have indoor recesses.
- Have your child bring a warm coat and hat/gloves as needed.
- We ask that students have snow pants and boots if they would like to play in the field when there is snow on the ground.
- Our school district and school will communicate with our community if we have weather that requires us to move from in-person learning to an online learning day.
Lost and Found
Students, your stuff misses YOU too! So many lost coats are looking for their homes. Please take a moment to stop by the Lost and Found area to check for your missing things!
IPad Insurance is a LifeSaver
Did you miss the window to pay for your child’s IPad Insurance? It’s not too late! Half Year Insurance is now available. The cost is $12.50 per IPad. You can still enroll in insurance provided that someone at Centennial completes an inspection of the iPad first. If it is damaged, the iPad may not be enrolled in insurance until the fee for the existing damage is paid. Please visit the school office today for IPad inspection and insurance payment.
